Autavia 1163

The automatic Autavia is the desk's volume leader — the deepest, most liquid vintage Heuer family on the board. Launched in 1969 among the first automatic chronographs anywhere, the 1163 pairs the cushion case with the Calibre 11 and its Calibre 12 successor, crown riding on the left as the Chronomatic generation wore it.

Executions to know

The family runs from the early Calibre 11 cars through the Calibre 12 years, in both MH (minute/hour) and T (tachymeter) bezel forms. The 1163V — the "Viceroy," sold through the 1972 Viceroy promotion at a famous discount — is its own conversation: plentiful, honest, and priced by condition rather than rarity.

Buying notes

Verify the calibre execution against the case's period; check the bezel insert's originality before the dial's — inserts are the swapped part on this family. A serviced, correct 1163 at the median is a better desk piece than a tired rarity at the top of the range.
